Endorsements

Thank you to the following individuals and organizations for their endorsements in my 2024 campaign for State Senate:

Individuals:

Sen. Bernie Sanders: “For the last six years Tanya has taken on the important work in the legislature of making sure the most vulnerable Vermonters aren’t left behind. She isn’t afraid to ask tough questions and hold leaders accountable and I am proud to endorse her for re-election to the Vermont Senate.”

Sen. Phil Baruth, Senate President Pro Tempore: “One of Tanya’s greatest strengths is her ability to form relationships based on mutual respect with unlikely allies. Dick Sears often spoke about his admiration for Tanya. He told everyone who would listen that she was smart, measured, committed to the vulnerable, willing to find compromise, and knowledgeable about the issues in front of them. Even when they disagreed on policy, they always knew that they shared the same goal – to help the most people.”

Mellisa Cain, small business owner and Burlington resident: “As a renter, I love that my senator is also a renter- she gets it. Tanya knows why tenant protections are so important because she needs them too. I know she won’t just give up and go home when my rights are on the line.”

Jerry Greenfield, Co-founder Ben and Jerry’s: “We need as many grassroots organizers in office as possible and I’m happy to continue to support Tanya. She has used her skills and experience with movement building to make sure the people who usually get left out of decision making have been not just part of the conversation but centered in it. Vermont is stronger with her in the Senate.”

Rep. Troy Headrick, State Rep for Chittenden-15 and Burlington Resident: “Tanya has been a consistent ally as we navigate passing good policy. From my first day as a State Representative she has been a generous mentor and kept conversations alive between our two chambers. I am so grateful to have a partner like Tanya, who is an influential member of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, while we address our communities’ ongoing public safety concerns. Tanya is a tireless advocate for Vermont’s most underserved and often forgotten people. She speaks boldly in support of policy that is often overlooked by the systems of power that pervade politics. I look forward to continuing this effective partnership with Senator Vyhovsky. Chittenden Central District is nothing but fortunate to have her in the Senate.”

Jeetan Khadka, Community Advocate and Essex Junction Resident: “I am pleased to endorse Senator Tanya Vyhovsky for re-election to the Vermont State Senate. Tanya’s ability to cultivate respectful relationships with people from different political viewpoints and her unwavering dedication to supporting marginalized communities are examples of her exceptional leadership. She tackles critical issues such as tenant protection, education, and housing with courage and integrity. Her grassroots organizing skills and deep empathy make her a valuable asset to our state. Tanya’s dedication to meaningful change and tireless advocacy ensure that Vermont remains a place where all voices are heard and valued.”

Rep. Kate Logan, Chittenden-16: “Tanya’s principled, brave policy leadership in the Senate has been unwavering, even when she has had to stand alone. We need to do all we can to be sure she returns to the Statehouse next year.”

Robert Millar, Winooski School Board President: “I’ve known Tanya for nearly a decade and I have been proud to call her my State Senator for the past two years. I know that on the issues that truly matter to Winooski’s residents – whether it’s the ongoing housing and affordability crises, education, or anything else – she will always stand with the people, not wealthy developers or corporate elites.
On education spending, Tanya gets that the problem is spiraling costs, like year after year double digit increases in healthcare, the mental health crisis affecting so many of our youth, aging infrastructure, and more, not our local School Boards, who are just trying to do the best they can with limited resources. And on education finance, she understands it is long past time we ensure the wealthiest Vermonters paid their fair share by moving away from the current, broken and unfair property tax system.
On the housing crisis, I know Tanya will push not just for more construction, which, yes, is a necessary part of the solution, but also for protections for the most vulnerable in our communities. That means things like Just Cause Eviction, a statewide rental registry, Short Term Rental regulations, and more, in order to put a stop to those who are taking advantage of the current crisis. I’m proud to call Tanya my friend and I am excited to endorse her campaign for reelection!”

Kiah Morris, former State Representative: “Tanya is a steadfast champion for the people. It is not easy being one of but a few to push for the peoples’ agenda and Tanya never waivers in her political courage. We need a proven champion in the Senate. I am proud to endorse Tanya to once again be my Senator.”

Chris Pearson, retired VT Senator and Burlington resident: “Tanya quickly proved she is able to work well with Senate colleagues but also effective at pushing them when it comes to standing up for working Vermonters and social justice. I am impressed by her courage and strong moral compass. We are lucky to have her working for us in the VT Senate.”

Jean Sienkewicz, Social Work educator and Winooski resident: “Policy social workers FTW! Tanya’s courage and verve and willingness to use her voice have been instrumental in these tumultuous times and I’m tremendously appreciative.”

Rep. Mary Katherine Stone, Chittenden-14: “Tanya is someone who takes her work as a social worker into her role as a policy maker. She looks at challenges holistically, lifts up the voices of the underrepresented and ensures that people are the focus of her work. We need more of that in these divisive times and that’s why I’m happy to endorse her.”

Keegan Albaugh, Educator and Burlington resident: “When decisions are being made in the statehouse, I need to know that Vermont’s most oppressed populations have the strongest of advocates representing their best interests. Tanya is that advocate. During her time as a State Senator, Tanya has worked tirelessly to ensure that Vermont’s most vulnerable community members are seen, valued and their health and well-being is consistently being prioritized. Through her years of experience as a social worker in a variety of settings, Tanya knows the challenges Vermonters face on a daily basis and knows what it takes to make long-lasting change in our communities. There is no question in my mind that our state needs Tanya’s voice in the statehouse.”

Joint endorsements for Tanya Vyhovsky & Martine Larocque Gulick:

State Rep. Daisy Berbeco of Winooski: “Senators Gulick and Vyhovsky have been strong and consistent collaborators of mine in the State House. They have worked hard for Winooski from keeping our tax increases one of the lowest in the state to protecting public education and our students learning supports to renters rights. They have both been outspoken advocates for health equity and multi language learners.
Martine and Tanya showed up for Winooski and I hope we show up for them. Join me in re electing Martine Gulick and Tanya Vyhovsky for Senate.”

State Reps. Leonora Dodge and Rey Garonfano of Essex: “Senators Vyhovsky and Gulick have a proven track record of thoughtful leadership and integrity, especially when it comes to supporting our education system and defending our democratic process.”
